Intimacy After Kids: Reconnecting as a Couple

You became parents together and then became roommates. Reconnection is possible — and it usually doesn't start where you think.

Intimacy After Kids: Reconnecting as a Couple

After kids, something quietly shifts. You and your partner are still here, but you're often running a household more than a relationship. Intimacy gets crowded out by logistics, exhaustion, and the sheer noise of family life. It's not that you've stopped loving each other — it's that you've stopped finding each other.

Reconnection rarely starts in the bedroom. It starts in the small gaps you protect: ten minutes of real conversation before sleep, a look that says 'I see you,' a regular evening where you're partners instead of co-parents. Desire follows connection more often than the other way around.

It's okay to grieve the version of your relationship that's gone. Then begin building the next one — intentionally, together.
